The UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center (UNC LCCC), in collaboration with departments in the Gillings School of Global Public Health and College of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, seeks outstanding candidates for an open-rank, tenure-track faculty position to begin in summer or fall of 2010. We seek a scholar specializing in quantitative methods who will conduct independent research and also work collaboratively with investigators in the UNC LCCC's population sciences program. The individual must have a strong commitment to pursue cancer-related behavioral and population science research. The ideal candidate should have training in biostatistics, econometrics, psychometrics, or quantitative methodology in sociology, with specific expertise in one or more of the following areas: latent variable models, hierarchical or multilevel modeling, design and analysis of group or cluster randomized trials, longitudinal data, and mediation/moderation analysis. The ideal candidate will also have excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and writing skills as well as experience in working in multidisciplinary research teams. The academic home department (biostatistics, epidemiology, health behavior and health education, psychology, sociology, etc.) will depend on the person selected.

Postdoctoral Fellowship on Statistical Approaches and Research Methods for the Educational and Social Sciences
The Nebraska Center for Research on Children, Youth, Families and Schools (Center on CYFS; http://www.cyfs.unl.edu) and the National Center for Research on Rural Education (R2Ed) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is seeking applications for qualified candidates interested in participating in a two-year postdoctoral training program in the area of statistical approaches and research methods for the educational and social-behavioral sciences. The purpose of this fellowship is to promote the development and application of advanced statistical techniques and methodological approaches to support the conduct of methodologically-rigorous research on educational and behavioral interventions. Qualified applicants will have a doctorate in quantitative methods, psychometrics, or a related field to be completed no later than August, 2010. Training and interest in either (a) latent variable modeling approaches such as item response theory, structural equation modeling, latent class analysis, and/or a related approach; or (b) modeling approaches for complex sampling frameworks such as hierarchical linear modeling, multilevel modeling, or mixed modeling is required. Interests in methodological applications relevant to the areas of educational measurement, intervention, rural education, early childhood, and youth risk are preferred. Experience or interest in applied statistics, program evaluation, and/or experimental design is also desirable.
Training for fellows will begin in Summer or Fall, 2010 and take place via (a) mentored professional development, independent writing, and grant development; (b) immersion in large-scale, federally-funded applied education research drawing from multiple disciplines; and (c) didactic research training. In addition, they will be encouraged to establish independent research culminating in the solicitation of future grant funds. At the conclusion of the experience, fellows will be well poised to assume roles in academic institutions or research centers that have as their priority advancing the scientific basis of educational programs.
Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until positions are filled. The following application materials are required: (a) a cover letter describing professional research interests, research experience, methodological and statistical training, and professional development and research goals to be pursued during the fellowship; (b) a complete vita; and (c) two letters of recommendation (at least one from a faculty advisor or mentor).
